About the role of Volunteer

Are you ready for the 2025 Flower City Comic Con? You are?! So come on down, we just need a little information first.

What kind of help do we need? Responsibilities could include access control, registration, assisting guests, assisting with operations, line control, or other duties not listed here that come up before or during the event. All volunteers should be prepared to tackle any task given to them by Flower City Comic Con Staff, but you will not be asked to do anything that you can’t or don’t want to handle.

This will be fun! But before you sign that dotted line, please make sure you can adhere to our Rules of Conduct.

Volunteer Rules of Conduct

Please read the Volunteer Rules of Conduct. By submitting this application, you agree that you have read and agree to these Rules of Conduct, and further attest that to your knowledge, you have no discrepancies that would be of concern, such as a restraining order or evidence of illegal behavior.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS

* Box Office - You will be asked to assist in the registration of guests, the sales and collection of tickets.

* Cosplay Repair Station - Assisting with cosplaying volunteers and cosplaying guests with repair and maintenance of their outfits.  Some sewing skills would be preferable and a general understanding of hot glue (seriously... it can be a thing).

* Exhibitor Floor Staff - One of the more seemingly mundane and yet more important roles on the staff.  You'll be helping keep an eye on the vendor floor.  This will mean answering the questions guests and vendors may have.  You may be required to sit in for a vendor from time to time so they can go to the bathroom or get something to eat.  You may be asked to heft chairs and shelves and the occasional table and Brian and maybe some LEGOs, definitely carrying the show on your shoulders through your vast heroics. You'll be needed not just show weekend; but at the outset during Vendor Move In so be prepared for a couple of shifts on Thursday and Friday if you're available.

* Media Guests/VIP Liaisons - In this job, you'll be a personal assistant to one of the media guests.  This means keeping their stations organized, handling attendees and their purchasing of autographs and photo ops, potentially upselling ticketholders to photo packages and merchandise that may be available.  Sales and Customer Service experience preferred for this job, thank you!

* Parking Managers - This may sound really lame; but it's one of the most important jobs at the Convention.  You'll be out in the parking lots (both the venue's and across the street at the Tech Park) helping direct traffic, keeping cars organized and shuttling patrons and ticketholders back and forth to the venue (obviously a valid driver's license and a clean driving record will be required for that last bit).  There will be a regular shuffling of staff for this job to ensure that no one is stuck outside for lengthy periods of time (especially in inclement or overheating weather).

* Programming Team - This is the group that oversees the Panel Rooms, ensuring that scheduled panels are set and ready to go at their appointed times.  They oversee the crafting of the panel schedule and have a hand in some of the activities around the Convention.

* Security - Overseeing the security and safety of everyone in the venue.  Checking bags, monitoring props, overseeing the events and helping diffuse any potential interpersonal issues that may arise.  Also... you need to look good in red.

Volunteer Terms and Conditions and Release

Thanks for your interest in volunteering with Flower City Comic Con! We want to provide a place where all fans can come together and have a great time with each other, and volunteers are a huge part of providing a great time for all! Please review our volunteer policies below.

All policies will be strictly enforced.

ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST BE 16+ OR OLDER TO VOLUNTEER

  1. We ask that all volunteers work a minimum of  5 to 6 hours. This may cover one or more shifts depending on which area you are assigned to.
  2. If you are 16 or 17 you will need parent/guardian permission to volunteer.
  3. Times we will need volunteers: September 11, time TBD, Friday September 12. 8am-8pm to help with vendor move in, general setup, and Friday's show. Saturday September 13, 7:00am-8:00pm. Sunday September 14, 8:00am-7pm. The before and after show hours are to help with making sure everything is ready to go before and cleaned up after. Sunday we want enough people on hand to help with vendor move out.
  4. We prefer all volunteers work at least 1 Saturday shift. Saturday is our busiest day and we will need all the help we can get, so anyone who is able to work a shift on both Saturday AND Sunday will get preference. If you have special scheduling needs, and are only able to work Sunday, please note this on your application.
  5. All volunteers must wear their name badge while at the con or while working any pre-convention event
  6. All volunteers should wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Please refrain from wearing torn or dirty clothing or open-toed shoes. Comfortable walking shoes are best, as most volunteers will be doing a lot of standing and/or walking.

  9. Volunteers are not permitted to use their volunteer status to promote or conduct personal business. Anyone caught doing so will be escorted off the premises and have their badge/wristband revoked.
  10. All volunteers will need to attend a brief non-harassment training before the convention.
