About the role of Volunteer

VOLUNTEER RULES AND CONDUCT:

All volunteers are responsible for their own actions, all convention, staff, building, and city and state laws and rules apply to volunteers. If a volunteer breaks a rule at any point, he or she will be spoken to and the incident will be logged in their volunteer record. After two incidents, the volunteer's right to volunteer will be revoked and depending on the incident they may be removed from the convention.


Incidents include, but are not limited to:

  • Complaints from staff, volunteers, celebrities, building staff or guests
  • Sexual harassment
  • Physical altercations
  • Harassment of any kind
  • Use of alcohol or other mind altering substances is prohibited while on shift during the show or an event, as is being under the influence of the previously mentioned.
  • Loss of convention property
  • Theft of property
  • Any negative portrayal of Altered Reality Entertainment/Colorado Springs Comic Con or its employees, including, but not limited to blogging or social media platforms.
  • Any infraction of the convention or staff rules
  • Insubordination of team leader or convention staff
  • Leaving your assigned position without approval
  • Requesting free autographs or photos with/from celebrities or artists
  • Requesting contact information from celebrities, artists or agents for other events or personal use
  • Inappropriate conduct or interaction with ANY guest, attendee, volunteer or staff member.

All volunteers will be required to attend an in-person/virtual orientation and/or training, as well as read and sign a contract with the volunteer rules and expectations.

We reserve the right to refuse any benefits to volunteers who are removed as a volunteer at any time.

FAQs

Q: How old do I have to be to volunteer?

A: You must be 18+ to volunteer.

Q: Do I get paid?

A: No, these are non-paid volunteer positions.

Q: What are the volunteer requirements?

A: We ask for a minimum of 2 shifts while the show is open to the public. Some assignments require a longer commitment as noted below.

Q: What will I be doing if I volunteer?

 A: It depends. There are a variety of jobs available and depending on your availability and interest, you will be assigned to the best suited position(s).

  • After Party Assistance – wrist banding and scanning

  • Artist/Vendor Relations - covering breaks for artists/vendors, identifying issues with floor/crowd

  • Guest Signing: Liaison/Handler - Handling sales/selfies etc. for Celebrity Guests

  • Guest Signing: Line Control - Directing attendees to appropriate lines, capping and managing egress

  • Information Booth– Helping people find their way

  • Panels - Managing lines and resetting rooms in between Panels

  • Photo Ops - Directing Attendees through the process of getting a photo with Celebrity Guests 

  • Show Photographer - Taking photos throughout the venues (must have your own equipment)

  • Show Store – Selling our merchandise

  • Talent Move Team – Escorting Celebrity Guests to and from different areas 

  • Vendor Load In/Set-Up and Tear Down – helping to set up department areas and break them down

  • VIP Registration – Giving our VIPs their swag

Q: What if I am scheduling during a panel, photo op or event I want to attend?

A: We will work to accommodate your request(s), please let your volunteer coordinator(s) know and you will be scheduled accordingly for a break.

Q: Can I dress in cosplay while volunteering?

A: Unfortunately, not during your volunteer shifts.


Volunteer Terms and Conditions and Release

In consideration of my desire to serve as a volunteer at Rhode Island Comic Con, I hereby assume all responsibility for any and all risk of property damage or bodily injury that I may sustain while participating in the event or other activity of any nature, including the use of equipment. Further, I, for myself and my heir, executors, administrators and assigns, hereby release, waive and discharge Altered Reality Entertainment LLC/ Rhode Island Comic Con and its officers, directors, employees, agents and volunteers of and from any and all claims which I or my heirs, administrators and assigns ever may have against any of the above for, on account of, by reason of or arising in connection with my volunteer participation therein, and hereby waive all such claims, demands and causes of action. If any portion thereof is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect. I currently have no known mental or physical condition that would impair my capability for full participation as intended or expected of me. Further, I have carefully read the foregoing release and indemnification and understand the contents thereof and sign this release as my own, free act and free will.
