Second World Fantasies in Literature and Why We Love Them

Room 350DE

Saturday May 25, 2024 - 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm

Sure, there's plenty to explore on Earth, but sometimes, we want to travel to a faraway land of magic. Krynn, Pern, the Cosmere, Prythian, and Navarre, to name just a few, offer us a glimpse into different worlds where the rules of physics don't apply. They have a different set of magic tenets that keep their world turning. What is their draw? Why do we so desperately want to escape to these imaginary realms of dragons and sorcerers? What do such second world fantasies fulfill within us? Join panelists Rose Garcia, Jim Butcher, Aparna Verma, Tim Frankovich, and Gabriela Romero Lacruz.
