MCM Birmingham Comic Con 2026 - Eco Craft Challenge application

Gather your squad and turn show trash to treasure! At MCM we do our best to reuse everything we can from show to show but sometimes things just have to go. To highlight the creativity of the cosplay community and promote recycling in cosplay we are setting a challenge to 3 teams to create a costume masterpiece in just 2 hours at the Cosplay Central stage from recycled materials from the show. The completed outfits will be showcased on the main stage in the judging deliberation during the Saturday Masquerade.

Team applications close 21st June 2026.
Participation in the challenge will be confirmed no later than 3rd July

General Rules:

  • All participants must be 16 or older to compete in the Eco Craft Challenge at MCM London Comic Con.

  • Each team of four (4) people must submit one (1) form including information about the complete group, including social media links or examples of previous cosplay crafting. The MCM Cosplay team will select three (3) teams to participate from the applications received once the submission period has ended.

  • Selected teams must be available on Saturday 29th November to create the costume in Cosplay Central from 09:45 -12:15 and at least one (1) team member must be available during the MCM Masquerade and Crown Qualifier qualifier at the Main Stage (expected to take place between 16:30-18:00) to showcase the costume.

  • Each selected team will receive a selection of materials, made up of waste from past events such as wall wraps, cardboard and old t-shirts, and some basic crafting supplies, to create one (1) outfit per team to be showcased on stage.

  • The finished costumes should provide enough coverage to be worn in public and should be in good taste and appropriate for a family-friendly show.

  • Each selected participant will receive one (1) complementary weekend ticket (i.e. 4 tickets per team) to an MCM event within 12 months as thanks for participating. If required, this ticket can instead be claimed for MCM Birmingham Comic Con 2026 to enable team members who do not already have appropriate tickets to participate in the challenge.
  • Selected Participants are responsible for all other expenses relating to participating in the Eco Craft Challenge at the Event including all lodging and travel to and from the Event.

  • Employees, staff, crew or guests of Reed Exhibitions or any associated company and their immediate families, and persons connected with Cosplay Central e.g. prize sponsors or judges and their agents are not eligible to enter the Eco Craft Challenge.
